More about the program

The program includes excursions to different towns in Bulgaria, visits of natural wonders and cultural heritage with a local guide who will introduce you to rocks, trees and types of soil. It will encourage you to incorporate plants science, geology and climate theories in your work and come up with a socially – and – naturally – responsible piece that capture the very NOW moment, your attitude and connection to the environment. These activities are OPTIONAL.

As a diverse community that encourages empathy and mutual understanding for our participants (regardless of the subjectivity that inevitably comes with the art piece), we cannot help but mention that Sofia is a wonderful mixture of voluntary causes too, so in your free time you may have a chance to practice crafts with refugees, prepare food for homeless people, draw with children in need, play with left behind animals and enjoy the feeling of contribution to the locals from different social groups (especially after a bad day without sparks of creative flow). May you feel down, this longing for solitude could be realized in the numerous green places around the city. We trust in introvert exclusion sometimes and defend the existential need of alone-time. In the summer, Sofia is often blank in terms of people and activities which give the opportunity to take long walks, enjoy picnic and sun.

If you are longing for solitude could be realized too in the big parks around Sofia as well us in some underground bars and galleries. We trust in introvert exclusion sometimes and defend the existential need of alone-time. In the summer, Sofia is often blank in terms of people and activities which giver the opportunity to take long walks, enjoy picnic and sun, go to Communist tour and attend variable meeting of interest.

The residency is LGBTIQ+ friendly. We can also share contacts of LGBTIQ+ community places while you are here.

Bulgaria is not a big country nor very populated which makes impressive the abundance of artists and artistic happenings.

Festivals like Meadows in the Mountain, One Dance Week, Apolonia, Bansko Jazz Fest, Udaya, Festival in the Nature, Francofolies, Aymon gather international audience and happen all around the country.

Upon arrival, we will provide you with a list of places around Sofia for both traditional sightseeing and contemporary art, as well as for some summer festivals to enjoy.
